Current Projects

Suspension Fitter Project

The initial group of Learner Assessors for the Suspension Fitter programme completed the first phase of their training on the 09th October 2009. Each learner has to now compile " A Portfolio of Evidence" to be awarded the relevant accreditation for the course. This is certainly good news for the TDAFA, seeing as this process has been on the cards for some years now.

MERSETA has agreed to include Suspension Fitter in its Voucher Implementation Project (VIP) which will offset much of the training costs. MIBCO has agreed to provide an opportunity for Suspension workshops to achieve compliance. Any further queries on the project can be directed to Len Whiteley on 011 88 66 300 or len.whiteley@rmi.org.za

Consumer Protection Bill

Did you know that this bill potentially makes the South African Consumer amongst the best protected in the world?

In its current format, this bill will change the way business is conducted in South Africa.

The TDAFA has engaged the services of a consumer law expert to provide information and preparation before implementation mid 2010. Road shows will be conducted nationally plus a DVD is being compiled to further explain the direct implications and the proactive approach that members will have to take to ensure compliance.

Roadworthy Testing

TDAFA supports the implementation of annual Roadworthy testing to passenger vehicles. This will obviously contribute towards minimising road carnage and would certainly improve the quality of tyres on our roads.

Skills Development Facilitators

The RMI now has trained SDF’s at all the regional offices equipped to assist members with application processes for the relevant work place skills plans, study grants, training initiatives etc. For further information please contact your regional office or send an e-mail to rmit100@future-ent.com

2ND Hand Goods Bill

This act in its present format places exceptionally stringent demands on tyre dealers. This will include all dealers in 2nd hand goods having to comply by keeping a register and holding onto all 2nd hand purchases for a period of 7 days  before reselling. Failure to comply will result in hefty fines and/or imprisonment. The RMI and the TDAFA are working very closely with Business Against Crime to ensure that our members will, via the association, receive a special dispensation exemption.

NAAASP

National African Association of Automobile Service Providers (NAAASP), and the TDAFA, through mentorship and sponsorship, has embarked on an upliftment program for the informal sector within the industry. This program, for the moment, involves taking approximately 12 Informal Traders and elevating them to Formal Operators. We are extremely excited about this project, and believe that with the assistance of the Power Houses, we will achieve our objectives.
